Object-oriented Programming, Systems, Languages, and Applications (OOPSLA)

OOPSLA (Object-oriented Programming, Systems, Languages, and Applications) is now part of SPLASH (Systems, Programming, Languages, and Applications: Software for Humanity).

OOPSLA Steering Committee

The OOPSLA Steering Committee is a strict subset of the SPLASH Steering Committee and is constituted by the following members:

  • future, current, and past three SPLASH General Chairs,
  • future, current, and past three OOPSLA RC (co-)chairs,
  • the SPLASH Steering Committee Chair, who is the chair of the OOPSLA Steering Committee by default but can choose to delegate the chair position if desired.

NB! In 2027 the past three years are 2026, 2025, and 2024.

The OOPSLA Steering Committee has its own mailing list for discussing OOPSLA specific issues.

The current OOPSLA steering committee is:

  • Frank Tip (Northeastern University), SPLASH Steering Committee Chair, SPLASH 2026 General Chair, Chair
  • Jeremy Singer (University of Glasgow), SPLASH 2029 General Chair
  • Michael Pradel (CISPA Helmholtz Center for Information Security/University of Stuttgart), OOPSLA 2028 Review Committee Co-Chair
  • Alexandra Silva (Cornell University), OOPSLA 2028 Review Committee Co-Chair
  • Vivek Sarkar (Georgia Institute of Technology), SPLASH 2028 General Chair
  • Filip Křikava (Czech Technical University), SPLASH 2027 General Chair
  • Nadia Polikarpova (University of California San Diego), OOPSLA 2027 Review Committee Co-Chair
  • Ilya Sergey (National University of Singapore), OOPSLA 2027 Review Committee Co-Chair
  • Anders Møller (Aarhus University), OOPSLA 2026 Review Committee Co-Chair
  • Işil Dillig (University of Texas at Austin), OOPSLA 2026 Review Committee Co-Chair
  • Charles Zhang (Hong Kong University of Science and Technology), SPLASH 2025 General Chair
  • Shriram Krishnamurthi (Brown University), OOPSLA 2025 Review Committee Co-Chair
  • Sukyoung Ryu (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology), OOPSLA 2025 Review Committee Co-Chair
  • Manu Sridharan (UC Riverside), SPLASH 2024 General Chair
  • Alex Potanin (Australian National University), OOPSLA 2024 Review Committee Co-Chair
  • Bor-Yuh Evan Chang (University of Colorado Boulder), OOPSLA 2024 Review Committee Co-Chair

The scope of OOPSLA includes all aspects of programming languages and software engineering, broadly construed. Papers that address any aspect of software development are welcome, including requirements, modeling, prototyping, design, implementation, generation, analysis, verification, testing, evaluation, maintenance, reuse, replacement, and retirement of software systems. Papers may address these topics in a variety of ways, including new tools (such as languages, program analyses, and runtime systems), new techniques (such as methodologies, design processes, code organization approaches, and management techniques), and new evaluations (such as formalisms and proofs, corpora analyses, user studies, and surveys).

PACMPL Author Guidelines and Policies

Please see the Author Guidelines and Publication Policies of PACMPL that apply to all OOPSLA papers as they are published in the Proceedings of the ACM on Programming Languages (PACMPL). More information about PACMPL can be found here.

OOPSLA Policy on In-Person Presentations

OOPSLA papers are published in the PACMPL, which states in its procedures under governance that “authors of all accepted papers are encouraged (but not required) to present their work at the corresponding conference”. To maximise the in-person experience, we ask all the authors who choose to present their work at the conference to do so fully in person by attending the conference and registering for the full 3-day OOPSLA event. We are currently unable to support remote participation, and we suggest that the authors explore the optional “SIGPLAN Track” that is provided by some of the SIGPLAN conferences to allow the recent PACMPL published work to be presented in person for the first time.

OOPSLA Policy on General Chair Submissions

The SPLASH General Chair is permitted to submit papers to OOPSLA. However, a General Chair who submits must not be involved in the reviewing process in any way, including selecting RC chairs directly, overseeing the review of papers, or serving in any review-chair-like role (e.g., assisting with reviewer assignments or acting as an admin on the submission system). The RC chairs should ensure that a non-conflicted Associate Editor (AE, called “Associate Chair” in some OOPSLA documentation) handles any paper involving the General Chair. This policy is supported in part by the fact that OOPSLA now has two RC co-chairs, which makes it easier to manage such conflicts fairly. Note that the SIGPLAN Guidelines for the General Chair recommend that the General Chair not submit, but the OOPSLA Steering Committee has determined that submission is allowed provided the conditions above are met.

Most Influential OOPSLA Paper Award

Each year a “Most Influential” OOPSLA paper is chosen and an presentation is made at OOPSLA. More details about this award and past winning papers can be found here. SIGPLAN also makes several other awards including an “Outstanding Dissertation Award.” Please consider making a nomination for one of these awards.  More details about the SIGPLAN awards can be found here.
